The library story time yesterday was a visit from Miss Utah. She served as a medic in the army in Afghanistan, won Miss Utah and went to the Miss America Pageant where she was voted peoples choice (or something like that). She talked to the kids about setting goals, helping others (as a medic she was able to help a little 5 year old girl in Afghanistan get eye surgery she needed to see), and staying fit. She did push ups with the kids, let them try on all her equipment and take pictures with her crown. Maddie was interested in what she was saying & in the slide show of pictures, but when she mentioned the the fact that she was Miss Utah and pulled out those pictures her interest increased by about 100 %. She wanted her picture taken not only with the crown, but the sash as well. Then she gave the crown back and started to walk out with the sash still on. They had to stop her and remind her to give it back. She stroked it and stared at it for a minute before handing it back...the librarians were laughing. That's Maddie!

That is really cool that they got to meet Miss Utah. I read about her a few months ago. She sounds like quite an inspiration for young girls. Very cool.
