A Midsummer Night's Play

Faeries dancing on a midsummer night's eve to the sounds of Enya drifting through the trees.
Our neighbors have the coolest tradition and thankfully invited us to participate! They put on a "Midsummer Night's Play" every year in June. It is the actual "play within the play" from a Midsummer Night's Dream. Their teenage daughter and her friends actually memorized their Shakespeare parts, and they helped her 10 year old brother and 6 year old sister to memorize their parts as well. They decorated their AMAZING backyard with lights and balloons, gave invitations to a bunch of the neighbors and planned all the music and costumes. They do this EVERY year! It was so magical, we all felt like little kids again! ( Memories of a Cinderella play surfacing for anyone?) All the neighborhood kids that came could be either a faerie or a lion. They came dressed up and played their small part, then when it's was over they all danced around the yard to the music for a good half hour. In the play they got to throw real rose petals from baskets on the "dead lovers" and to the audience. My girls were in girly HEAVEN.
