Question:
Can you power a TV by using one AA battery? (This was demonstrated on a youtube video.)
Hypothesis:
I think it will work because it worked on the youtube video.
Conclusion:
We tried it as demonstrated in the video and this does not work. That video is a hoax! The battery and TV power are incompatible. See the report for complete details.
Report:
The video says you need-
-Red and white audio cables
-Pliers, tape
-AA battery
-A TV
We did the following as the video instructed-
#1 Pull the post out of one end of each audio cable.
#2 Tape one cable to each end of the battery.
#3 Attach one cable to each side of the power cord plug.
#4 You can now turn on the TV.
Why it won’t work (incompatible electrical currents):
This is how pbs.org explains current-
“In a copper wire, electrons are able to move relatively freely from atom to atom. Current describes how many electrons are passing through a wire or some other object at any given moment. High current means lots of electrons are in motion”
But there are two types of current:
-DC, which stands for Direct Current, is the type the battery supplies.
-AC, which stands for Alternating Current, is the type the TV needs.
The difference is the direction the electrons are able to flow. See illustration “A”

Maddie looks so grown up. That is an interesting project. Electricity always baffles me. I'm afraid of it for one thing...brave maddie touching all those wires and things!!
Ever since that scene on Christmas Story (the movie) where the dad is trying to find an outlet to plug in his "electric sex" ( the lamp that's a sexy leg) and all the sparks go flying and stuff, I get freaked out with wires and elecricity too! Great job Maddie! And I didnt' know what DC and AC stood for, you taught me something today!

Great job Maddie! (I trust you didn't present your final project in your pajamas.) Learning about electricity is important. Grandpa learned all about electricity when he was fixing a lamp and forgot to unplug a cord and then cut it off the lamp with a pairing knife. (Your mom was a little younger than Gracie at the time.) I got a big JOLT of electricity. It melted a hole in the knife...and I felt pretty dumb and awfully lucky. (Don't ever try that one. :)
Maddie is such a smartie.
